Premier League 2020-21 Matchday 6 Round up

The return of the Premier League saw a set of mouthwatering contests between quality sides on Matchday 6. Fans were treated with the usual brand of exciting football offered by the most competitive league in the world.

The game between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford gained all the spotlight. Moreover, the clash between the rivals did not prove to be a high-scoring affair as both teams had to settle for a goalless draw.

Soccer enthusiasts got to see the attacking combination of Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz at the start, in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Later, new signing Hakim Ziyech made an appearance as a substitute, pairing up with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham.

For United, Edinson Cavani made his Premier League debut and almost scored with his first touch, as the ball went sidenetting.

That said, both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Frank Lampard would settle for a clean sheet. Center-backs Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire displayed immense character in the 4-3-2-1 formation weaved by Solskjaer.

There was not much to choose from either side, but it was the home side which proved to be dominant, with four shots on target as opposed to a solitary shot from Chelsea.

New signing Edouard Mendy garnered a substantial amount of respect while making some crucial saves, after a howler early in the game.

At Anfield, Liverpool looked a different unit with the return of Sadio Mane in the left-wing. The Senagalese was instrumental in the 2-1 win over visitors Sheffield United.

Roberto Firmino’s 41’ minute goal helped Liverpool equalize after an early penalty conceded through a rough tackle from Fabinho.

Mane then served a delicious volley to Diego Jota, who converted in the 64 minute. Sheffield United could not make a comeback as Liverpool continued to hold their fortress at home with a 2-1 victory.

The game between Aston Villa and Leeds United belonged to Patrick Bamford (55’,67’,74’). The Leeds United number nine shocked Aston Villa at their backyard with a hattrick in the second half.

Here are the results from Matchday 6:

Aston Villa 0-3 Leeds United

West Ham 1-1 Manchester City

Fulham 1-2 Crystal Palace

Liverpool 2-1 Sheffield United

Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea
