Indian sports fraternity pay tributes to late Argentina footballing great

New Delhi, Nov 26 (GloFansGlobal) The Indian sports fraternity on Thursday paid tributes to former Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, who had passed away at the age of 60 earlier on Wednesday.

Former India skipper Sourv Ganguly, who had once the opportunity to play with Maradona when the legendary footballer had visited India, tweeted with a throwback picture: “My hero no more ..my mad genius rest in peace ..I watched football for you..”

Meanwhile, batting great Sachin Tendulkar said: “Football and the world of sports has lost one of its greatest players today. Rest in Peace Diego Maradona! You shall be missed.”

Meanwhile, India men’s football chief coach Igor Stimac shared an image of him facing Maradona while playing for Croatia and said: “Rest in peace, my friend. You are one of the reasons why the world love the game we have played. We’ll miss you. My thoughts are with your family and close ones. Thank you, Diego.”

Also, former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh said: “Really sad to hear of the passing away of the legendary Maradona. He truly lived life king size & by his rules and set benchmarks on the field and off it too. RIP my friend. You will be missed.”

Significantly, Maradona, a player with charismatic figure, had led his national side – Argentina — to lift the 1986 World Cup. He had died late on Wednesday, aged 60. Maradona was discharged from a hospital just two weeks ago after he underwent a surgery for blood clot in his brain.

Maradona had also served as the chief coach of the Argentina national squad between 2008 and 2010 and was the manager of Gimnasia y Esgrima during his death.
