At the half-way mark of the group stages of the UEFA Champions League 2020-21, several top-notch teams were at loggerheads yet again for three points in their respective groups.

All eyes were on Group B fixture between Real Madrid and Inter Milan at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. The game lived up to its expectation as fans were treated to a five-goal thriller.

The Los Blancos ended up on the winning side and clinched three much-needed points to elevate from the bottom of the group, with a 3-2 win at home.

Karim Benzema set up the first-half for his team with a goal in the 25th minute, with assistance from a horrible back–pass from Achraf Hakimi.

Captain Sergio Ramos then extended the lead, with a trademark header from a set-piece in the 33rd minute. The centre-back completed 100 goals for Real Madrid in the process.

Milan number nine Lautaro Martinez reduced the deficit with a brilliant finish in the 35th minute, before Ivan Perisic’s equalizer in the 68th minute.

However, the decisive goal from the match came from Rodrygo in the 80th minute, netted the ball from the front, through a jaw-dropping assist from Vinicius Jr through the left flank.

The shocking results from the group keep coming in from the group as Shakhtar Donetsk faced a humiliating 0-6 defeat at home against Borussia Monchengladbach. Alassane Plea starred for the German club with his hattrick. With the win over the Ukrainian side, Borussia M’gladbach is now on the top of the table.

The other thriller from Matchday 3 of UCL came from Austria where RB Salzburg hosted defending champions Bayern Munich.

The final scoreline of 2-6 in the game did not do justice to the evenly fought match. The Austrian club displayed a lionhearted performance until the 78th minute, where they resisted the visitors to a 2-2 scoreline.

However, it all escalated with Jerome Boateng’s goal in the next minute. The goal opened the floodgates for the German side who then scored three more to achieve the dominating scoreline.
