India’s ministry of sports has decided to change eight sports facilities into Khelo India state centre of excellence (KISCE).These facilities include Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium, and four others in north-eastern states. Khelo India Youth Games, previously known as Khelo India School Games, is held annually in January – February.
The initiation of the process to find out sports facilities began in October last year. The state is having facilities in states like Karnataka, Odisha, Kerela, and some states of north east.
These centres will be granted with a sum which will be based on the comprehensive analysis study that tells the major requirements of the centre.
After the selection of sports facilities in October 2019 each state and union territory was asked to tell about the best infrastructure of sports they had in their area and also the agencies that could be converted into world class sports facilities.
This will help in improving the sports facilities in these states and UTs. Of the 15 proposals received and examined, 8 were shortlisted based on the training facilities available in the centre’s priority sports facilities, infrastructure facilities and champions.
The aid will be extended to Olympic sports. The state and UT will run the centres and will be responsible for boarding, lodging and maintenance.
