Manchester United beat Everton; Chelsea ascertain dominance

Matchday 8 of the Premier League 2020-21, staged several key clashes between top English clubs, in context to the points table.

With their 2-0 win over Newcastle United, Southampton shooted to the top of points table on Friday. Undoubtedly, the Ralph Hasenhuttl managed side proved to be the form team, coming into the middle stages of the league.

After failing to win in their last five home fixtures, Manchester United came under the scrutiny, especially in the aftermath of their defeat in Istanbul in the Champions League.

New-signing Edinson Cavani registered his first goal for Manchester United in the additional time, thanks to a magnificent assist from Fernandes, who was involved in all three strikes for the visitors.

Frank Lampard’s side continued to ascertain their dominance with a splendid 4-1 win over Sheffield United at home.

The visitors had no answer to Hakim Ziyech’s class from the fringes, after taking the lead early in the match. The Moroccan winger clinched the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his exceptional assists through which Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva scored from. Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham also registered their name in the score-sheet with their goals.

There was nothing hospitable about Crystal Palace while hosting Leeds United. They went on to clinch three points with their 4-1 win. The only talking point from the game was the Patrick Bamford equalizer which was ruled out as off-side by VAR.

Only a part of his wrist was beyond the off-side line while calling out his teammate for a ball. The decision sparked a lot of controversy due to the intense involvement of VAR in modern-day football.
