Mumbai Indians annihilates Delhi Capitals by a whopping 9-wicket margin

In what was expected to be a nail-biting top of the table clash, Mumbai Indians (MI) annihilated Delhi Capitals by a whopping margin of 9 wickets and 5.4 overs to spare.

DC, who were coming off three resounding losses, had no answer to the clinical performances from the already qualified MI side.

Earlier, it was Kieron Pollard who won the toss and opted to bowl first. His decision to field first turned out to be crucial as Jasprit Bumrah (3/17) and Co. made the most of the juicy conditions on offer.

The MI bowlers used Test-match line and lengths against the hapless DC batting unit, who kept losing wickets at regular intervals of the game.

Bumrah, along with Trent Boult (3/21), wreaked havoc in the DC dugout. Nathan Coulter-Nile (1/14) and Rahul Chahar (1/24) enjoyed the spoils with a wicket each.

The Capitals, eventually crawled towards a total of 110 and lost 9 wickets in the process. The only innings of substance came from captain Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, who could not capitalize on their starts. Barring the two batsmen, none of the DC batters could cross the 20-run mark.

Chasing a paltry target of 111, Ishan Kishan displayed his ruthlessness with his quickfire knock of 72*, which came off just 47 deliveries. He smashed 8 boundaries and three sixes in his innings, which came at a strike-rate of 153. Deservingly, he was felicitated with the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Quinton de Kock (26) and Surya Kumar Yadav (12) played the supporting act well with their respective contributions.

Except for Anrich Nortje (1/25), none of the DC bowlers threatened to make inroads into MI’s batting. As a result, MI bagged another couple of points to extend their lead at the top of the table.

DC now has lost four in a row and it is their batting which proved to be the Achilles Heels. They now have to win their last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to remain in contention for the Playoffs.

Brief Scores:

Mumbai Indians – 111/1 in 14.2 overs (Kishan 72*, Nortje ) beat Delhi Capitals – 110/9 in 20 overs (Boult 3/21, Bumrah 3/17) by 9 wickets
