Mumbai Indians bag second straight title, beat Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets to claim 5th IPL trophy overall

After 60 gruelling games of the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), we finally have a winner. It is the Mumbai Indians (MI) who won the final of IPL 2020 and in some style.

It was the captain Rohit Sharma who led from the front during their fifth IPL title, and second straight title win.

Sharma shrugged off all his rust in the game and top-scored with his knock of 68, which came off just 51 deliveries. The ‘Hitman’ smacked five boundaries and four maximums in the process.

Chasing a moderate target of 157 runs, MI never really looked in trouble, thanks to supporting cameos from their top order.

In the end, they won the final comfortably by a margin of five wickets and eight balls to spare.

Earlier, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first. However, Trent Boult caused all the damage for the Capitals upfront with his devastating spell with the new ball.

The Kiwi seamer removed an in-form Marcus Stonis (0) in the very first delivery of the game. Then, he removed Ajinkya Rahane (2) out of the equation. He ended up with figures of 3/30 in his four overs. By the fourth over, DCs were in all sort of trouble, with the score reading at 22/3 and opener Shikhar Dhawan (15) back in the hut.

Moreover, Iyer, along with Rishabh Pant, put on a brilliant rearguard action with their resurrecting partnership. The DC skipper led from the front with his unbeaten knock of 65 which came off just 50 balls.

Pant slammed his maiden fifty in the tournament with his priceless knock of 56 which came off just 38 balls. Nathan Coulter-Nile (2/29) and Jayant Yadav’s (1/25) spell kept the lid on the scoring rate for DC’s.
