IPL 2020 5 uncapped players who graduated with stars across three Emirates

Dubai, Nov 6 (GloFans): The 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) will be known as much for the uncertainties the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faced in the process of ensuring a smooth tournament in the United Arab Emirates, as for the rise of unheralded talent to stardom and fall of many icons from grace. Just like the story of all big sports events which throw to the fore new heroes while also witnessing fading icons.

The 13th season is about to culminate and like each year this season too has witnessed many highs and lows. While some players continued to dominate the yearly event or even flopped, several budding youngsters took the opportunity with both the hands and are likely to knock the doors of the national team anytime soon.

With the round-robin stage of IPL 2020 getting over, GloFans App Team takes a closer look at five uncapped players, who rose to the occasion and carved a niche for themselves in a star-studded showpiece event.

  1. Varun Chakravarthy:

The 29-year-old mystery spinner from Tamil Nadu was undoubtedly the best performer for two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2020. Varun, who had set himself at a base price of ₹ 30 lakh for the 2020 auctions, was pocketed by KKR for a whopping 4 crore.

The leggie, in return, fulfilled the franchise expectation, emerging as the leading wicket-taker for his side with 17 wickets from 13 games, averaging around 20. Varun’s best show of the season came in the 42nd affair, where Varun spun a web around the Delhi batsmen by picking five wickets. He was later shortlisted by the selectors for going to Australia with the India T20 squad.

  1. Rahul Tewatia:

The 27-year-old Haryana all-rounder hogged limelight after he pulled off an impossible win for his side – Rajasthan Royals, which scripted the record for the highest ever chase in IPL history against Kings XI Punjab. Tewatia smacked Sheldon Cottrell for five consecutive maximums in Sharjah, turning the favour in RR’s way in the ninth match of the season.

Tewatia finished the league stages with 255 runs from 14 games beside scalping 10 wickets.

  1. Ishan Kishan:

The Jharkhand stumper-batsman has been defending champions Mumbai Indians’ go-to man this season. The MI think-tank tested Ishan for the opening slot beside the Number four position, and the 22-year-old performed everywhere. Ishan (483 from 13 games) currently sits atop the chart for leading run-scorer for MI, decently averaging 53.66.

  1. Devdutt Padikkal:

The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) opener has been termed as the find of the 2020 season by many cricket pundits. After amassing 472 runs from 14 affairs, the 20-year-old youngster shattered the record for most runs in a season by an uncapped player. Moreover, Padikkal has slammed five half-centuries, which is also the most by an uncapped batter in his debut season.

  1. Ruturaj Gaikwad:

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a season to forget but the three-time champions will surely be elated after looking at the promising 23-year-old Pune batsman.
