New Delhi: Adding to the ongoing turmoil on India’s participation in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Narinder Dhruv Batra, IOA President today sidelined the tournament calling it a waste of time. The comment further sparked a row of responses from the sporting fraternity and Indian Sports Fan.

Shooting was the first sport to be dropped off from the official Commonwealth Games 2022 that faced flak from various sporting athletes and fans. Followed by the decision, India started mulling on the decision on completely pulling off from the Games if Shooting is not added to the list of sports. In continuation to the series of event, IOA President, Narinder Dhruv Batra added another comment that is now being seriously examined on the magnanimity of the international event. Calling the games as a waste of time, Narinder Batra added, “These games have no standard. For me, these are a waste of time and money. We win 70 medals, 100 medals at the Commonwealth Games while at the Olympics, we get stuck at two medals”.

While the comment has hurt many athletes including Badminton player Parupalli Kashyap and Boxer Vijender Singh who opposed the statement saying this is belittling their achievements, there is another side of the story as well that is coming to the fore.

While many sports journalists and fans are agreeing to the stand, a large sector of Women’s Cricket Fans is disheartened as India was likely to make a comeback at the 2022 CWG.

The President of Commonwealth Games Federation, Ms. Louise Martin is likely to visit New Delhi on 14th November to discuss the ongoing issues with Kiren Rijeju, Sports Minister and Narinder Batra. While fans are eyeing on the participation of Women’s Cricket in Birmingham, many athletes are hoping for a positive response that would further help them to better their performance profile.
