World Cup-winning ex-Indian captain, Kapil Dev, has been admitted to a hospital due to cardiovascular issues. According to reports, Dev underwent angioplasty after feeling ‘uneasy’ on Thursday evening.
Indian Cricketers’ Association President, Ashok Malhotra, confirmed about Dev’s visit to the hospital for a check-up. He was taken to Delhi’s Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.
“He is feeling okay now. I just spoke to his wife (Romi). He was feeling uneasy yesterday. He is undergoing check-ups at a hospital as we speak,” Malhotra told PTI.
Moreover, a source privy to the matter dismissed the rumours of heart attack.
“The heart attack was a rumour. He is fine,” the source confirmed.
As soon as the news broke out, prominent cricketing entities, such as Shikhar Dhawan and Madan Lal, registered their concern for the legendary cricketer and wished him a speedy recovery.
“Wishing you a speedy recovery @therealkapildev sir. Strength always,” Dhawan tweeted.

The 1983 World Cup winner has represented the country in 225 ODIs and 131 Test matches in his illustrious career. The Haryana all-rounder is the only cricketer to have achieved the double of amassing 5,000 runs and scalp 400 wickets in Test cricket.
In 2010, Dev was inducted into ICC’s Hall of Fame. Bollywood heartthrob Ranveer Singh is slated to impersonate the 61-year old in the upcoming movie ‘83’, encapsulating one of the greatest underdog tales in the sports history.
