Regaining those Ashes, Ooops… Fans…..

With the onset of the 2019 Ashes series, the very first task for Aussies was to regain the fans that eventually witnessed many stories throughout the series. From Regaining those Ashes, a task long recorded in the name of England has now been rotating its wings of fires towards team Australia as the latter struggles to find the fan favorite moments.

With Steve Smith and David Warner being mocked for their sand paper incident by the fans on the opening day of Ashes to comments thrown on Jofra Archer on showing the fans his passport, a lot of communication exchanges have been consistent throughout Ashes 2019. The tournament also become one of the most fan interactive series where players actually exchanged a lot of verbal and non verbal jibes with the fans. Here’s a quick review of fans in Ashes ;

A stint with sand papers;

The opening of the Ashes ‘urned’ a lot of jibes as fans came dressed in Steven Smith and David Warners’ behind the bars attire and raised the sand papers booing the duo who were banned last year for using sand papers to tamper the ball. A sight that definitely irked Smith resulting to his poor performance but he was quick to regain his fan admiration by scoring runs on runs.

Passport checks inside the stadium;

The first day of fourth Ashes test was not just jittery over the performances from both the sides but England’s fast bowler was asked to show his passport by Australian fans when Archer was fielding. The fans were later on evicted from the stadium for continuous grueling comments.

Unending Boo’s;

Steve Smith remained fans target for continuous booing throughout the series to which Britain’s Sports Minster had to put his foot down. The Minister, Nigel Adams, became vocal and requested fans to stop booing Smith as he has already served a twelve month ban for his deeds. This quickly reminds us of how Indian skipper Virat Kohli requested fans to stop booing Smith during the World Cup Series. Such is the bonding & lineage of sports…

Warner at his best;

Warner was once again caught up by a fan where the fan shouted “Warner, you cheat!” to which David had a perfect answer. He turned back, showed thumbs up and ran towards the field. This was enough to gain momentum for Warner that diffused the brawl into a light hearted everyday fan experience for the players.

12 yrs. Old fan took the much deserved limelight;

While the series was filled with so many good & bad comments, records, moments packaging to a perfect fan experience, Max Waight, a 12 year old fans of Aussies gained so much of respect by the players and the fans with his unique story of passion. Dreamed of watching Ashes 2015, Max couldn’t garner the money required for the match and so he decided to pick up garbage of his neighbours for 4 years that can make him some money. Max raised AUD 1500 in four years and successfully made it to the grounds with hearts of fans from Australia to UK.
